Learning to die to yourself is probably one of the hardest challenges that a Christian may face. The reason that it’s so challenging is that we want to do things our own way and in our own time. However, being a Christian prevents us doing that simply because God works in His own time and may require us to die to ourselves, to die to our desires, at a different time than we would hope for.
Maybe God is calling you to give up something and you’ve been procrastinating. Remember, this world is only temporary. The things in this world do not matter in the light of the Father. Yes, it is hard to surrender objects, friendships, your own time, food, and so on and so forth. However, think about how these things do not matter. When you die and you are standing before the Father, is the new flat-screen TV that you just bought is going to be brough up?
God will never say, “Well, Katie, I saw that you bought that flat-screen TV eight years ago. How was that like?” Because it’s not about that, but it’s about how we followed Jesus Christ throughout our whole life.
Don’t choose tomorrow to surrender, choose right now, in this moment, to surrender everything that is getting in the way of your relationship with God.
